Austria

Precise, dry whites led by the peppery Grüner Veltliner.

Wine history

Celtic and Roman viticulture along the Danube gave way to monastic vineyards in the Wachau. A 1985 adulteration scandal devastated exports and forced Austria to adopt some of the strictest wine laws in the world — the result is a country now known for meticulous, dry, terroir-driven wine.
