Greece

Ancient viticulture with grapes the rest of the world is only discovering.

Wine history

Wine has been made in Greece for at least four thousand years, and the Greeks spread viticulture across the Mediterranean. Ottoman rule and later phylloxera interrupted that continuity; since the 1990s a modern generation has revived indigenous varieties on Santorini, in Naoussa and across the Peloponnese.
